Episode 11 - Sixteen Candles

Can you believe Jon never saw 1984's Sixteen Candles? Can you believe he has no nostalgia for it? Can you believe a man can fly? Can you believe Ali's never seen Superman IV: The Quest For Peace? Can you believe Jon forgot to talk about the vast disparity in quality of the music in this movie? Can you believe how much casual racism, sexism, and homophobia is in this coming of age tale?

Sixteen Candles was written and directed by John Hughes and stars Molly Ringwald, Anthony Michael Hall, Michael Schoeffling, Gedde Watanabe, Havilland Morris, the 'sacks (John AND Joan), and is very much carried by the great Paul Dooley.

Episode 10 - The Journey of Natty Gann

After a disastrous botched recording yesterday, MMIS is back with The Journey of Natty Gann, a surprisingly violent Disney live action romp that is not about an intrepid girl reporter! Ali turns in an admirable performance, given that she was furious to have to do this twice. Jon refuses to sing Spider-Wolf again.

The Journey of Natty Gann was directed by Jeremy Kagan, and stars Meredith Salenger, John Cusack, Ray Wise, Lainie Kazan, Scatman Crothers, and Jed the Wolf-Dog. Screenplay by Clifford Odets and Jack London.*

Episode 9 - Gymkata!

Ali and Jon are back after a seemingly endless hiatus with the legendarily goofy Gymnastics/Martial Arts Mash-Em-Up, Gymkata! Jon has the skill of gymnastics. Ali has the kill of Karate. They both have a timeshare in the Village Of the Crazies.

Gymkata "stars" Kurt Thomas and several other people you've never heard of. It was directed by Robert Clouse, and written by Charles Robert Carner, based on the aptly named novel, The Terrible Game, by Dan Tyler Moore.

P.S. Jon accidentally calls the "Kahn" of Parmistan the "King" for most of the podcast. He feels shame for his error.

Episode 8 - Savannah Smiles

The Bickersons are back and ready for heartwarming family fun when Ali shows Jon 1982's Savannah Smiles, a look at the lighter side of kidnapping. Jon attempts to describe the Golden Girls' house. Ali attempts to describe a redneck soap opera. Both attempt to destroy their dog. Oh, and Jon does two new impressions that are even worse than any he's done before.

Savannah Smiles was directed by Pierre De Moro, and written by Mark Miller. It stars Mark Miller, Donovan Scott, Bridgette Anderson, Peter Graves, Pat Morita, and some other people.

Jon was amazed to learn this is available on the Amazon link below, as he assumed his copy was a bootleg.

Episode 7 - Cobra

This week Jon shows Ali the morally reprehensible 1986 Stallone ode to unchecked police brutality, Cobra. Jon is the disease. Ali is the cure. Bad impressions abound, and the couple go as far off the rails as they have ever been.

Cobra was "directed" by George P. Cosmatos, with a "screenplay" by Sly himself, based on the "novel" Fair Game by Paula Gosling. It stars Stallone, his girlfriend, Poppy from Seinfeld, Brian Thompson, Lee Garlington, and that one character actor that looks like a catcher's mitt. Get this: Golan and Globus were involved.

Oh, and the nerdy guy whose name Jon absolutely could not remember is Andrew Robinson, the Scorpio killer from Dirty Harry

Episode 6 - The Outsiders

Despite spending most of 1997-2005 (and beyond) drenched in pomade, Jon had never seen this seminal teen proto-bratpack movie. Basically, this episode eschews our usual format because neither of us took very good notes. Jon (Greaser) gets mad about Gone With the Wind. Ali (Soc) gets beyond mad and basically invents a new rage-based emotion about Catcher In the Rye. Jon is also ready to rumble.

The Outsiders was directed by Francis Ford Coppola, with a screenplay by Kathleen Rowell, based on the S.E. Hinton novel. It stars Soul Man's C. Thomas Howell, Matt Dillon, The Karate Kid, Chris Traeger, The Swayze, Charlie Sheen's brother, that Scientologist guy, Lief Garrett, Diane Lane and a bunch of weird looking featured extras. Oh, and Tom Waits.

Episode 5 - Anna To the Infinite Power

Jon and Ali show EACH OTHER the incredibly weird prequel to Clone High, 1983's Anna To the Infinite Power. Jon remembers a fight scene one way. Ali remembers it another. They both harbor resentment for most of the movie, in this, the most tense episode of The Bickersons Podcast yet. But it all ends up okay in the end.

Its fairly hard to find this movie, but there is at least one copy available at the link below.

Episode 4 - Repo Man

This week, Jon is back in charge of programming, and the Goodman-Wolter household is slam-dancing in a parking lot, metaphorically speaking, to 1984's punk-rock-sci-fi-social-satire-comedy-thriller Repo Man. Jon makes an attempt to go off on tangents delving into the career of Zander Schloss. Ali valiantly resists Jon's attempts to go off on tangents delving into the career of Zander Schloss.

Repo Man was written and directed by Alex Cox, and stars Emilio Estevez, Harry Dean Stanton, Sy Richardson, Tracy Walter, and the legendary Zander Schloss.

Episode 3 - Girls Just Want To Have Fun

Oh do they? This week, Ali shows Jon a little slice of her childhood with 1985's Girls Just Want To Have Fun, a look at the sordid underbelly of Chicagoland dance competitions. Jon is baffled by the lack of Chicago accents and the sub-Blues Brothers level of Chicago geographical continuity. Ali struggles to get a word in edgewise.

Girls Just Want To Have Fun was directed by Alan Metter and written by Amy Spies and stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Helen Hunt, Not-Joey-Lawrence, and Jonathan Silverman. It does not star Shannon Doherty, no matter what the poorly photoshopped cover leads you to believe. Seriously, Biff Yeager has more screen time.

Episode 2 - Commando

Dismayed by the lack of action in last week's movie, Jon decides to show Ali the ur-Schwartzenegger action fest, Commando. Ali attempts to take a body count. Jon attempts to not do an Arnold impression. Guess which one was successful?*

Commando also stars Rae Dawn Chong, Alyssa Milano, David Patrick Kelly, Vernon Wells, and the great, unpronounceable Dan Hedaya. It was directed by Mark L. Lester, and one of the contributing writers was responsible for one of the dumbest Batman villains ever.

There are spoilers for this 30 year old movie, if you've somehow never seen it.

*Trick question. Neither one was successful.

Episode 1 - Over The Top

In this episode, Ali shows Jon the single greatest movie Stallone ever made about semi-professional arm wrestling. Jon is baffled about whether this movie is an action movie or a Lifetime movie. Ali knows a lot more of the soundtrack than Jon is comfortable with. Over the Top stars Sylvester Stallone, Robert Loggia, and David Mendenhall; directed by Menahem Golem.

Oh, and uh…like all MMIS episodes, this will have spoilers.
